Gerry Cranham

Cranham jeux olympiques nage piscine

Un mot sur l'oeuvre

GCRA026
Glasgow, 26th June 1964. The Scottish swimmer, Bobby McGregor, in training for the Tokyo Olympic Games. He went on to win Silver in the 100m freestyle.

Le témoignage de Gerry Cranham

The pool in Glasgow where he trained was not an Olympic-sized pool (50m). He therefore had to turn twice as often as usual which allowed me to work to find this image.

Le choix de Jean-Denis

Incidentally, the coaches simply couldn’t believe that this swimmer had only trained in small pools, whether in Falkirk, his home town, or Glasgow. There was simply nothing else in Scotland at the time. But the image is something else, is much more than all that. It is totally in the Gerry Cranham style, who always tried to move away from the traditional sports photography of the time. How to tell this story, and tell it beautifully. Gerry did it.
